WEEK 2 RESEARCH- 5 GROUPS

After an in class lecture about groups and the role they play on society and the design world our homework was to research and explore 5 subgroups and identify their appearance, hobbies, jobs etc in order to see what identifies them as that group and why. I wanted to research a diverse variety of groups in order to get the full idea of how different groups differ from each other. The five groups are listed below with visuals to show the groups.

1- GOTH

Goth contemporary subculture began in the UK during the 1980s and is now seen in many cultures all over the world. Goth was a offshoot of post punk genre and was seen in a gothic rock scene. Goths are associated with taste in music (heavy mental/ dark lyrics) aesthetics (such as dark makeup and personality) and fashion (dark clothes featuring colours of black, red and purple). Styles of dress differ from each country including death rock, punk, Victorian and Medical styles. Most have dark attire, makeup and hair.

2- HIPPIE

Hippie was originally a youth movement which came of existence during the 1960s in the USA. The term ‘hippie’ came from the word ‘hipster’ and was used to describe artists such as Jimi Hendrix. The early hippies ideologies copied those of the Beat Generation, but later on hippie groups created their own social groups and communities and listened to psychedelic rock, embraced the sexual revolution and experimented with drugs such as marijuana. Hippie fashion and values had a major effect on the society, with huge influence from popular music, tv, film, literature and the arts. The hippies wore brightly coloured clothing, flared pants and headbands. The hippie legacy can be seen today in contemporary culture in minor forms such as health foods and music festivals.

3- NRL SPORT FANS
NRL sport fans are very passionate and loyal towards their chosen team. The team has normal been followed in their family for generation and normal the children are brought up with the team and will learn to live and breath their team. Each team has their own colours, sayings and songs, the team has memberships and VIP access to met the players days and after game interviews.
4- HELLS ANGELS
The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club is a worldwide motorcycle gang whose members typically ride Harley Davidson motorcycles. They are often associated with crime and violence, wear black leather jackets with Hells Angels patches and their primary motto is "When we do right, nobody remembers. When we do wrong, nobody forgets."
5- SKATER/SURFER
Surfer and skater can be seen under the same title. Surf culture includes the people, language, fashion and the general life surrounded by the sport of surfing. It began in the early 20th century and quickly became popular during the 1950s and 60s and continues to evolve today. Surfers are bound to hunt and search for great waves, the desire for the ultimate ride and the life around the ocean. The fashion includes swimwear, board shorts, surf t shirts and thongs all year round.
